The Coolest Tech from vivo at MWC 2019 Shanghai

Mobile World Congress, may it be in Barcelona or Shanghai, is the perfect time for tech brands to flex their muscles and show the world what they’ve got. I’m privileged to be here and to see everything for myself. Vivo was among the many booths that I visited and these are the 3 coolest tech that the brand showcased:

120W Fast Charging

A lot of mobile devices already have a fast charging feature but this 120W Super FlashCharge technology is insane! Vivo claims that it can top up a 4000mAh smartphone from 0% to 100% in just 13 minutes. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it myself. Of course there’s always the concern about safety when it comes to these things but I’m hopeful that the brand will release more information about it to put our concerns to rest. Still, I can’t help but be excited for smartphones to have this features so we never have to worry about not having enough time to juice up our mobile device.

AR Glass

The term “AR” is no longer new in the tech scene but the experience with it is getting better and better. I used to associate it with gaming. You put on the glasses, play the game and get transported to a different reality. While it can still be used for that, my experience with AR in the Vivo booth is different. Yes, you still have to wear the geeky glasses but this time, you can use it for work like send email but what I really enjoyed was the face recognition feature. Pretty much all you have to do is look at an object and you’ll see all sorts of information about it through the glasses. It’s similar to how Tony Stark accesses information, although not quite as advanced (yet).

I’m not really sure how they intend to use the technology but I can imagine it being really helpful if you’re doing some shopping. All you have to do is look at the product that you’re interested in and the AR will show you everything that you need to know like the price, the make and how it compares to similar products etc.

5G

Yes, this is the current buzz word in tech but today, I got to experience the incredible speed for myself. Gamers will go nuts because they can perform their absolute best with no lags and no slowdowns. Sharing files becomes fast and easy and screen mirroring is a smooth process. Even streaming is made better because buffering will no longer be an issue. Whether it’s for work or for play, 5G will definitely benefit everyone.

In line with this, I was also able to check out the iQOO 5G, the brand’s 5G-enabled device, which should be available in the market by the 3rd quarter of 2019. There’s not a lot of information about it yet but we do know that it has a Snapdragon 855 processor and Qualcomm’s X50 5G modem. Truthfully, Filipinos may not find a lot of value in a 5G phone just yet but it’s still pretty exciting because 5G is our future and I’m hoping that we’ll have access to it sooner rather than later.
