HTC’s mid-range smartphone is powered by MediaTek’s octa-core solution

HTC made a pledge that they would try to penetrate the mid-range market, and it seems that the company is going to make good on that promise. Aside from the previously announced Desire 816, the company is also going to release the Desire 616 – in China anyway. The newest device from the Taiwanese manufacturer will sport a MediaTek octa-core processor, the same one that’s present in many of the high-end offerings of local brands.

As far as looks go, the HTC Desire 616 doesn’t look that bad, and is certainly designed similarly to the company’s other offerings. We’ve seen the octa-core setup before in local phones, and MediaTek’s 1.7GHz processor offering is definitely capable enough to keep the user experience nice and fluid. It’ll be interesting to see the pricing of the Desire 616 when it does officially arrive in China, only because there may be a chance that the device finds its way here via our favorite online re-sellers.
