Among the key selling points of the P50 series is that Huawei managed to put a bigger display and bigger batteries on both the vanilla and Pro model while being thinner and only a smidge larger than their predecessors. The P50 Pro has a 6.6-inch curved AMOLED display with a 120hz refresh rate, while its vanilla sibling has a flat 6.5-inch AMOLED panel with a 90hz refresh rate. Both phones come with 300hz touch response rate, 1225 x 2700 resolution, and support for HDR content.

The P50 and P50 Pro come with a 4100mAh and 4360mAh batteries respectively. Both phones support 66w wired charging and 50w wireless charging, along with stereo speakers and an IP68 rating.

Photography is the main forte of the P series, and the P50 series come with a Leica-branded rear camera setup with a 50-megapixel f/1.8 main camera and 13-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera. The Pro model adds OIS on the main camera and has a wider 13mm focal length on the ultra-wide-angle camera, while the vanilla model comes with a 16mm focal length.

Both phones come with periscope cameras, but are configured differently: the vanilla P50 has a 12-megapixel f/3.4 periscope camera with 5x optical zoom and OIS, while the Pro model uses a high-resolution 64-megapixel f/3.5 periscope camera with 3.5x optical zoom and OIS. While the Pro model has a lower optical zoom range, its resolution makes it capable of digital zoom equivalent to 2700mm. In addition to that, the P50 Pro has an additional 40-megapixel f/1.6 monochrome camera and XD Fusion Pro for increased dynamic range.

The P50 series come with a 4G-only Snapdragon 888 processor, though the Pro model can be ordered with a Kirin 9000–again, only with 4G connectivity. The vanilla P50 comes with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB internal storage, while the Pro model can have up to 12GB RAM and up to 512GB internal storage. Both phones come with HarmonyOS 2.0 out of the box.
