The iPhone 8 will come with Wireless Charging—with a catch

But at least Apple’s adding this feature at last

We are just counting the days before the iPhone 8 will be unveiled to the public, and with all the confirmed features, we are somehow disappointed with its support for wireless charging.

While the iPhone 8 will be having a 3000mAh battery, its fast charging support is limited to wired charging. In a recent leak by Macotakara, the iPhone 8 is said to a slower 7.5W (5V/1.5A) wireless charging instead of a 15W fast wireless charging used by the latest Qi 1.2 standards.

Also worth noting is the extent of support for Qi charging accessories: Apple may require MFI licenses, which might make the new iPhones (the 7 and 7s are reported to have wireless charging as well) work with current Qi chargers. Don’t expect wireless charging to come out of the box: wireless charging on 2017 iPhones will be enabled through a software update.
