The Nikon Z FC Gives the Classic FM2 a Modern-Day Look

While you may not be hearing from Nikon lately, the Japanese brand announced a new mirrorless camera with the Z FC. Equipped with the same internals found on the Z50, the main selling point of the Z FC is its retro-inspired design that should attract those who want a fully-featured digital camera with looks inspired from cameras of the 70s and 80s–in the Z FC’s case, it is heavily inspired by Nikon’s popular FM2 film camera.

While it is largely made out of plastic unlike its doppelganger, the Z FC feels premium with the leather-tone inserts and aluminum dials. The latter plays a big part in the Z FC’s main selling point, as it gives an old-school way of adjusting ISO, shutter, and exposure compensation. Aside from the dials, the Z FC has plenty of switches for changing camera modes.

The Z FC is slightly better than the Z50, as its touch screen display flips out sideways. The display is slightly smaller at 3 inches, but you still get the same 1040k dot resolution. As for the EVF, the Z FC borrows the same 2360k ddot OLED EVF found on the Z50.

Given that it is based on the Z50, the Z FC has a 20.9-megapixel APS-C sensor that is paired with an EXPEED 6 processor and Nikon’s new Z-mount. You can shoot at up to 11FPS in full resolution and shoot 4K video at up to 30FPS with face and eye detection autofocus with the Z FC. For ports, you get an HDMI out and a microphone for better audio capture.
