The Notch On The Mi 7 Holds Similar Sensors To The iPhone X

It’s not just a notch for the sake of a notch

While many Android phones nowadays have a notch in the display, they don’t house elaborate sensors to read your face, unlock the one on the iPhone X. That’s the entire reason why the notch was put on that particular phone in the first place, since there was no way to hide so many sensors in the front without clever design shenanigans.

Well, Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship, the Mi 7, looks to take the same approach to the notch, as a leaked render of the front facial recognition module that’s supposedly for the Mi 7 has surfaced. The render shows off at least three cameras hidden in the phone’s notch that will be used to securely unlock the device.

Most Android phones rely on the front facing camera to unlock their device via facial recognition, but if the render is to be believed, Xiaomi is doing one better. Aside from the regular selfie camera, there’ll also be a infrared camera, as well as a dot projector that’s similar to Apple’s offering.

We’ll find out for sure when Xiaomi officially launches the phone on May 23.
