As part of Acer’s updated Predator portfolio of gaming laptops, the Taiwanese brand announced a new Predator Triton 500 SE that is designed to handle the latest AAA games while passing off as a subtle business notebook.
While it comes with the best possible internals out there–up to an 11th-gen Core i9 processor, up to a laptop-grade RTX 3080 GPU, and up to 64GB of DDR4-3200 RAM, the Triton 500 SE’s unique feature comes with its display options. In fact, it is offering three 16-inch display options: a 165hz WQXGA LCD display, 240hz WQXGA IPS PolarBlack panel with 3ms response time, and a 165hz WQXGA Mini LED display with 100% sRGB coverage.
The Mini LED option is unique, as it makes the Triton 500 SE one of the very few laptops to have such a display. Designed to emulate OLED on LCD panels, Mini LED makes use of multiple tiny LEDs to light up the LCD panel, resulting in a more balanced lighting of the whole panel that also boosts contrast ratio on the LCD panel.
Unlike Acer’s other gaming laptops, the Triton 500 SE has a vastly less flashy design, with the Predator logo tucked in the top right corner, devoid of any fancy RGB lighting. The same goes for the display bezels, as you only get a small Predator logo at the bottom bezel.
The Triton 500 SE does not disappoint with the port selection, as you get two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an SD card reader, Ethernet port, headphone jack, and DC in for the power adapter.
