The Samsung Galaxy Watch4 is now Powered by WearOS-based OneUI

The latest smartwatches of Samsung make a departure from Tizen and now use WearOS-based OneUI. Known as the Galaxy Watch4, the new smartwatches come with a 3-in-1 BioActive Sensor, which consists of Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. Samsung explains that the new sensor array on the Galaxy Watch4 can measure blood oxygen and body composition–the latter being a first for any Galaxy Watch.

The new body composition measurement tool captures 2400 data points and can give you a comprehensive set of data, which includes skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water, and body fat percentage, in 15 seconds by using two fingers.

The biggest change here is the UI, as Samsung is adopting WearOS for the first time in its smartwatch. Armed with Samsung’s own OneUI overlay, the Galaxy Watch4 is compatible with a variety of WearOS apps like Google Maps, Samsung
Pay, SmartThings and Bixby. This also expands the functionality of the Galaxy Watch4 to have support for third-party apps like adidas Running, Calm, Strava, and Spotify.

A 5nm processor powers the Galaxy Watch4–specifically the Exynos W920–which Samsung claims offers 20% better CPU performance and 10x better GPU performance than its predecessor. The smartwatch processor has two Cortex-A55 cores, a Mali-G68 GPU, and a Cortex-M55 processor for the smartwatch’s always-on display feature.

You also get 16GB of internal storage for all of your apps and media, along with a higher-resolution 450×450 display resolution. Despite the shift to WearOS, the Galaxy Watch4 is rated for up to 40 hours of battery life, and a 30-minute charge will give you 10 hours of usage.

Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Price

The Galaxy Watch4 starts at Php 12,990 for the 40mm Bluetooth-only variant, while the Galaxy Watch4 Classic, which adds a rotating bezel and has a stainless steel case, starts at Php 17,990 for the 42mm Bluetooth-only variant. Pre-orders for both smartwatches will be from August 19 to September 21.
