The Sony Xperia 5 IV Gets a Bigger Battery While Having the Same Size

After making the Xperia 1 IV official, Sony has made the smaller 5 IV official as well. Aside from expected upgrades like a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and a brighter OLED display, the Xperia 5 IV gets a bigger 5000mAh battery—a feat for a small phone—along with support for wireless charging.

The rear cameras are almost the same as their predecessor, though the telephoto camera now only has 2.5x optical zoom. The selfie camera gets an upgrade, borrowing the 12-megapixel sensor used on the Xperia 1 IV.

With those upgrades, Sony did a great job in retaining the headphone jack and still providing a MicroSD card slot on the Xperia 5 IV. The catch, however, is that you don’t get a charger or cable out of the box.

Sony Xperia 5 IV specs:

  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor
  • 8GB LPDDR5 RAM
  • 128GB/256GB UFS 3.1 storage
  • 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED display, 120hz refresh rate, 21:9 aspect ratio, HDR10 support, Gorilla Glass Victus, 97% DCI-P3, 10-bit color
  • 12-megapixel f/1.7 main camera with PDAF and OIS, 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera with AF, 12-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto camera with 2.5x optical zoom, PDAF, and OIS, Eye AF, Zeiss Optics
  • 12-megapixel f/2.0 selfie camera
  • 4G, 5G
  • WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1
  • IP68, LDAC, Side-mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers
  • 5000mAh battery
  • 30w wired charging, 15w wireless charging
  • Android 12

The Xperia 5 IV is priced at $999(~Php 56.8k) in the US. It has been a while since we saw Xperia phones made available in the Philippines, so the chances of the 5 IV coming to our shores is slim.
