The TCL Project Chicago might go into production as the Flex V

Do you remember a few months ago when TCL disclosed that they were supposed to launch their own answer to the Galaxy Z Flip3 but decided to shelve it? It seems that Project Chicago, the working name of the first TCL flip phone, might actually go into production as the Flex V. The phone was spotted by hose who attended CES 2022 in person, and the Flex V does look very similar to the “shelved” Project Chicago phone revealed several months ago.

Just like Project Chicago, the Flex V is powered by a Snapdragon 765G processor, which came out back in 2020 and is one of the most-used 5G processors by manufacturers. The dual main camera is said to have a 48-megapixel main camera and a 16-megapixel camera that we presume is an ultra-wide-angle camera. Accompanying the two cameras is a tiny color display that’s ideal for framing your selfies properly.

On the inside, the Flex V has a 44-megapixel selfie snapper and shares the same form factor as the Galaxy Z Flip3. However, TCL’s approach manages to trim down the gap between the two halves when folded compared to Samsung’s offering. The inner display has a Full HD+ resolution and a 22:9 aspect ratio. While it is not expected to have a 120hz refresh rate, the Flex V has a bigger battery than the Galaxy Z Flip3 at 3545mAh.

TCL has yet to disclose when they will officially sell the Flex V to the public but said that they intend to price it as low as $600(~Php 30.1k), making it potentially competitive in the market as the most affordable foldable device.
