When it comes to gaming laptops, users would often use a mouse instead of a trackpad. However, MSI thinks that a Smart Touchpad might have a good use case for a gaming laptop with its special iteration of the Raider GE78 HX.
This particular gaming laptop won a Red Dot Design award and even was exhibited at COMPUTEX 2023 for its unique one-piece touchpad design that basically covers the entire palm rest area. The multi-function touchpad is bigger and more versatile than the ScreenPad we see on some of ASUS’ laptops. The capacitive controls only activate when you enable the Smart Touchpad, where you get a multitude of controls ranging from being able to control the volume, toggling quick settings like Bluetooth and screen recording, and five customizable hotkeys can you can map depending on how you intend to use the laptop.
Despite that the Smart Touchpad has many functionalities, MSI explains that it’s still meant to be used together with an external mouse–its main purpose it to provide quick shortcuts and commands to the user while gaming.
Outside of the Smart Touchpad feature, this version of the Raider GE78 HX is a powerful gaming laptop on its own, featuring a Core i9-13980HX processor, RTX 4070 GPU, up to 64GB DDR5 RAM through two slots, and up to 2TB SSD with two slots (one for PCIe 4.0, and one for PCIe 5.0). You have two display options for the Raider GE78 HX: either a QHD+ 240hz panel or a FHD+ 165hz panel.
There’s no word yet when MSI will make the Raider GE78 HX Smart Touchpad available in the Philippines.
