Three More iPhone 8 Plus Smartphones Burst Open

Does Apple have a battery problem with their new flagship?

At least three more iPhone 8 Plus devices have reportedly burst open because of battery problems. MacRumors is reporting at least three more incidents of the new flagship’s battery expanding enough to pop out the display of the phone. Anthony Wu, from Canada, reports that his new iPhone 8 popped its display when he unboxed his shiny new device on Sunday, forcing him to return it to Apple the next day.

iRepair, an iPhone, iPad and Mac shop in Greece, also sent in photos of a similarly damaged device, which they say burst open after its owner plugged it in the wall socket using the original charger and cable. A third incident happened in China just recently.

To date there have been 6 cases of the iPhone 8 Plus battery failing and bursting open. An Apple spokeswoman told said that they’re aware of the issue and are looking into the matter. While there’s no cause of concern as of yet, if more phones start failing this way as more people get their hands on the new phone, then Apple may have a potential problem in their hands. While the battery failure of the new iPhones aren’t as catastrophic as the one in Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7, it’s still a legitimate cause of concern for potential buyers, considering the premium pricing that their products demand.
