vivo’s APEX 2020 Gets an Under-Display Camera, Continuous Optical Zoom

Another push for technological innovation

vivo is pushing boundaries once again with the latest APEX Concept phone. Continuing with its predecessor’s button-less, port-less Super Unibody Design, the APEX 2020 pushes boundaries further with its 6.45-inch, 120-degree FullView Edgeless display that has a front camera underneath it.

vivo’s approach to the under-display camera includes a 16-megapixel snapper that does 4-in-1 pixel-binning to produce high-quality 4-megapixel snaps and has up to six times better light transmittance despite being tucked underneath the display.

The APEX 2020 also has unique rear cameras. The 48-megapixel main camera has a gimbal-like mechanism that is said to be 200% better than current OIS solutions.

The periscope camera, on the other hand, has a physical zoom range of 5x to 7.5x, which is achieved using a “4-group lens combination”. The combination comprises of two fixed groups and two movable groups, and the setup ensures continuous zoom and focusing at the same time while keeping the whole module only at 6.2 mm thick.

Instead of using a magnetic port like its predecessor, the APEX 2020 introduces vivo’s 60w Wireless Super FlashCharge, which claims to wireless charge a phone with a 2000mAh battery in just 20 minutes.

Being a concept phone, we expect vivo to use one or two of the APEX 2020’s standout features in its future devices.
