We have an idea how fast is Huawei’s Kirin 970

In terms of uplink and downlink speeds at least

After we got to know about the Kirin 970’s AI abilities with its dedicated Neural Processing Unit, it is revealed recently that there is more to the Kirin 970 0ver being an octa-core processor built from a 10nm process. In fact, the Kirin 970 the first chipset to support LTE Category 18 (for downlink speeds) and LTE Category 13 (for uplink speeds). Recent tests by Huawei and German company Rohde & Schwarz, who manufactures test and measurement equipment for mobile radios, show that the Kirin 970 is capable of going as fast as 1.2Gbps for downlink speeds.

How fast is that? That roughly translates to being able to download your favorite movies in Full HD in a matter of minutes! For reference, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 is capable of 1Gbps downlink speeds and supports LTE Category 16.

While our internet speeds in the country are far from reaching such speeds, Huawei’s latest achievement is a sign that 5G speeds are coming in a few years’ time. Can you just imagine what you can do with such downlink speeds?
