Western Digital Elements Play

by Carlo Ople  March 6, 2011

The Western Digital Elements Play is a combined media decoder/player and 1TB-2TB harddrive that you can plug into your LCD/LED TV via HDMI or RCA Cables. It’s fairly simple to operate — load all your content via USB connection from your PC or laptop to the device and then just plug it into your TV and watch the content there. The decoder supports most of the popular media files like AVI, MKV, WMV, and MP4 among others.

1TB model sells for P7,950. The 2TB model goes for P9,700.

Update: One of our readers shared that this doesn’t support DTS which means that it doesn’t play audio on most MKV files. You’ll probably have to convert your MKV’s to make it compatible to this. Thanks Patrick!

I bought 1 a month ago and I am regretting my purchase already. I overlooked the fact that it does not have DTS support. It also does not play audio on most mkv files. The latest firmware update does not also solve this problem. I heard of a workaround on REMUXing but it’s still a bummer if I would be doing this to all my mkv files. 🙁
