What We Know About the Huawei Mate 10 So Far

Huawei’s Flagship Phablet Arrives in October

We’ve already seen  a bunch of awesome smartphones released this year and there’s a few more to look forward to. One of the phones we’re eager to see and try is the Huawei Mate 10, which is slated for release next month. Here’s what we know about the device so far.

Take note, while some of these things have already been confirmed there are other things you should take with a grain of salt.

Mark Your Calendars: October 16

There’s been a lot of talk about when we’re expecting the big-screened flagship of Huawei, and we finally have a concrete release date on the Huawei Mate 10 –October 16. The event will be held in Munich and you can expect that we’ll be covering the event and officially confirming all the speculated specs about the Huawei Mate 10.

Edge-to-Edge Display Confirmed

Earlier in the year, there was a lot of chatter surrounding what display the Mate 10 would be rocking and the company CEO confirmed that they would indeed be putting an edge-to-edge display on the Mate 10. Like the P10 and P10 Plus, it’s most likely going to have QHD resolution, or QHD+ given the 18:9 aspect ratio. Bye bye, Bezels.

Kirin 970 Processor

Huawei’s homegrown HiSilicon Kirin chipset has been kicking butt for the company and we can expect better things from the flagship Kirin 970 that was just launched a few days ago and is more than likely to end up on the Mate 10. I personally have been using the Kirin 960 equipped Huawei P10 Plus and are extremely happy with the performance from this device a different we’re expecting the same buttery smoother performance from the Mate 10. Together with the Kirin 970, the Mate 10 ship with Android Oreo (8.0) out of the box

Dual Cameras by Leica

Huawei has done well to leverage their partnership with famed camera manufacturer Leica and it’s more than just a marketing ploy. The P9 and P10 have been touted as one of the best smartphones for mobile photography. The Mate 9 came with the first generation lenses from Leica, so it’s more than likely that we’ll be seeing the second condition generation Summilux lenses on the Mate 10, but one has to wonder if they made other improvements to the camera as well; a larger megapixel count perhaps?

Regular and Pro Variants

One thing we were surprised to learn about is that the Huawei Mate 10 will have a Pro variant. Since the Huawei P10 Plus already sports 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, we’re wondering if that’s where the Pro version of the phone is headed or if Huawei is a adding a few more tricks up its sleeve; 8GB of RAM perhaps? What we’re not looking forward to is thee increased price tag on the Mate 10 Pro.

Speaking of pricing, since the Note 8 and possibly the iPhone 8 have a price tag of almost $1000 or Php 50k here in the Philippines, we’re really hoping that Huawei prices the Mate 10 more reasonably. I guess we’re all going to have to find out on October 16.
