With the Xiaomi 12 Lite finally going official in the Philippines, it’s no secret that the most affordable member of the 12 series has a higher price tag, making it compete against more established mid-range phones in the under Php 30k price range. In this price range, the Xiaomi 12 Lite is expected to lock horns with the Samsung Galaxy A53 and OPPO Reno7.

Both phones have roughly the same size as the Xiaomi 12 Lite, but differ in what they have to offer. How do they stack up against one another? Let’s check out in our comparison article:

Design

The Xiaomi 12 Lite has the advantage of being more premium than the Galaxy A53 and Reno7 for using a glass back and having flat edges to give it a sleeker look. The Galaxy A53, on the other hand, stands out for having an IP67 rating–a feature that makes Samsung’s mid-range phones unique from the competition.

All three phones don’t have a headphone jack and come with a USB-C port, while the Galaxy A53 and Reno7 allow you to expand storage via MicroSD.

 

Display and speakers

Both the Galaxy A53 and Xiaomi 12 Lite have better displays than the Reno6 with their fast 120hz refresh rate. While all three phones come with an AMOLED display that has a punch-hole and an in-display fingerprint scanner, the Xiaomi 12 Lite uses a 10-bit panel, which translates to a broader color range for supporting HDR10 and Dolby Vision content.

Cameras

While the Galaxy A53 may appear to have an advantage on paper because it has OIS, the Xiaomi 12 Lite uses a bigger sensor that has a higher resolution as well. The lack of OIS on the Xiaomi 12 Lite is compensated for its excellent EIS when it comes to video.

While the Galaxy A53 comes with a higher-resolution ultra-wide-angle camera, we prefer the approach of both the Reno7 and Xiaomi 12 Lite in reducing the number of stat-stuffing cameras.

As for selfies, all three phones are on near even ground with their use of a 32-megapixel sensor, but the Xiaomi 12 Lite adds eye tracking autofocus and dual LED lights to help in capturing sharper and clearer selfies than the Galaxy A53 and Reno7.

Internals

All three phones come with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage–though the Galaxy A53 and Xiaomi 12 Lite are also available in an 8GB/128GB variant, while the latter has a 6GB/128GB variant. The biggest differentiator between the three is with the processor–based on our tests, the Xiaomi 12 Lite’s Snapdragon 778G processor is the best among the three, while the Reno7’s Dimensity 900 comes at a close second.

All three phones come with Android 12 out of the box, though Samsung offers the longest support with up to 4 years of major software updates and 5 years of security updates. In comparison, the Xiaomi 12 Lite and Reno7 are guaranteed for at least 2 major software updates and 3 years of security updates.

 

Battery

The Galaxy A53 leads the pack when it comes to battery with its large 5000mAh battery that can last you more than a day depending on your use. However, both the Xiaomi 12 Lite and Reno7 make up for the smaller batteries with faster charging speeds–67w on the latter, and 65w on the former.

Despite having a smaller battery than the Galaxy A53, our tests with both the Xiaomi 12 Ltie and Reno7 show that they can last for a day with moderate use.

Price

The Reno7 is priced at Php 26,999 for the sole 8GB/256GB variant, while the Galaxy A53 is priced at Php 23,490 for the same configuration. Other Galaxy A53 variants include an 8GB/128GB variant that’s priced at Php 21,490, and a 6GB/128GB model that’s priced at Php 20,490.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi 12 Lite is priced at Php 20,990 for the 6GB/128GB model and Php 21,990 for the 8GB/128GB model. Aside from having an aggressive price against the Galaxy A53 and Reno7, the Xiaomi 12 Lite is a competitive phone with its SoC of choice, its stellar performance for both the main and selfie cameras, and its top-notch AMOLED display.
