Design

Like their smaller siblings, both the Xiaomi 12 Pro and Galaxy S22+ feature glass and aluminum build that are expected for their price points. However, the Galaxy S22+ does things a bit better with its use of Gorilla Glass Victus for both the front and back, along with an IP67 rating.

The same applies to the design as well: even if Samsung recycled the design language of the Galaxy S21+ for the Galaxy S22+, its camera module looks more distinctive than the one on the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

Display and speakers

The Xiaomi 12 Pro beats the Galaxy S22+ in the display department in practically all aspects: aside from having a physically larger (and curved) AMOLED display, you also get a higher WQHD+ resolution as well. The Galaxy S22+ does have its advantage, as it offers a higher brightness range at 1750nits.

The Xiaomi 12 also has an upper hand in the audio department, as it is one of the few (if not only) smartphones to offer a quad-speaker system.

Cameras

Like their smaller siblings, both the Xiaomi 12 Pro and Galaxy S22+ have technically the same main camera, which is a 50-megapixel sensor with OIS. However, the Xiaomi 12 Pro uses an IMX 707 sensor that is physically bigger than the one used by the Galaxy S22+.

For the telephoto camera, while the Galaxy S22+ has a 10-megapixel telephoto camera that has 3x optical zoom and OIS, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is not shabby either with its 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.

It’s a different story with the ultra-wide-angle camera, however, as the Xiaomi 12 Pro leads the way with a significantly higher resolution 50-megapixel sensor. The same applies to the selfie camera, as the Xiaomi 12 Pro uses a high-resolution 32-megapixel sensor.

Like their smaller siblings, both phones are capable of shooting 8K video.

Internals

Both the Galaxy S22+ and Xiaomi 12 Pro get the best possible internals with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The Xiaomi 12 Pro edges the Galaxy S22+ by having more RAM at 12GB. Both do not have a MicroSD card slot, but 256GB of storage should be enough for most people–even if they intend to shoot a lot of 8K video.

Battery

While both the Xiaomi 12 Pro and Galaxy S22+ have roughly the same battery size, the Xiaomi 12 Pro has the edge VS the Galaxy S22+ with its insanely fast 120w wired and 50w wireless charging speeds.

Price

While there’s no denial that Xiaomi’s premium flagship phones are more expensive than ever, the Xiaomi 12 is priced at Php 48,999 for the 12GB/256GB variant, which is around Php 12k more affordable than the 8GB/256GB variant of the Galaxy S22+ (Php 60,990).

Unlike with the case of their smaller siblings, the Xiaomi 12 Pro does offer more than the Galaxy S22+ while being more affordable at the same time.
