Xiaomi Implements Price Hike on Select Phones, TVs in India

As much as we don’t like hearing news of a price hike on any product, it is inevitable for Xiaomi to implement such. In a report coming from India, Xiaomi will increase the price of select TVs and phones in India by as much as 6% starting this month. Factors leading to the Chinese tech giant implementing a price hike are the ongoing chip shortage and rising shipping costs.

“While we have tried to absorb the increasing costs, some of our products have witnessed a price hike. We also foresee an inevitable increase of 3-6% in prices of our smart TVs from July 1 onwards,” a Xiaomi spokesperson said.

While Xiaomi did not disclose which products are affected by the price hike, GSMArena notes that both the Redmi Note 10 and Mi TV 4A 40 Horizon Edition are now INR 1000 more expensive compared to their launch price, which translates to a hike of around Php 700.

While Xiaomi decided to implement the price increase in India, we will not be surprised if the same price hike will take effect in other countries including the Philippines as well. Given that we usually follow Indian SRP for most tech products including those from Xiaomi, there’s a likelihood that we might feel the price increase on select Xiaomi products in the near future.

“We will do our best to offer the best price we can to consumers. But sometimes, we may have to pass part of the cost increase to the consumer in different cases,” Xiaomi president Wang Xiang said in an interview with Reuters earlier this year.

Aside from Xiaomi, other brands that depend on chips are also feeling the pressure of the global shortage and rising shipping costs, so it might not be only Xiaomi that will implement these price increases over the next few months globally.
