Xiaomi Kills Bezels And The Notch With The Mi Mix 3

This is the culmination of the bezel-less future

Xiaomi’s dream ever since it announced the first Mi Mix was to eliminate the bezels on smartphones. It’s what they’ve been working towards when that phone was released, and since then the company hasn’t been shy in trying to find the best way to remove that black border on your phone to give you as much screen as possible.

Today Xiaomi may have done it: the new Mi Mix 3 has the tiniest of bezels and no notch, a design trend that has plagued phones since the launch of the Essential One.

Xiaomi’s taken the route of its competitors to remove that notch, placing the camera on a manually actuated module on the rear that slides up when you need it. Unlike the OPPO Find X or vivo’s NEX, the camera module is manually actuated and is magnetic so it stays in place when you slide it up or down.

The end result is a phone that has a massive 6.4-inch full HD AMOLED display that’s virtually bezel-less. The phone’s rear holds a pair of 12-megapixel rear cameras, along with a fingerprint scanner.

Those cameras are pretty impressive, with Xiaomi claiming a DxOMark score of 103 for those dual snappers, which makes it better than Samsung’s Galaxy S9+ in terms of benchmark scores.

The Mi Mix 3 is armed with top-tier specs just like Xiaomi’s earlier incremental Mi Mix 2S, sporting a Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 10GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage.

Yes, you read that right: 10GB of RAM. Though that’s only for the special Palace Edition of the Mi Mix 3, that’s still a ridiculous amount of RAM for a phone.

There’s a massive 4,000mAh battery inside the device as well, along with fast charging and wireless charging capabilities.

Prices for the Mi Mix 3 are pretty competitive too. The base 6GB/128GB version is priced at RMB 3,299 or around Php 25.5K, while the 8GB/128GB variant is priced at RMB 3,599 or around Php 27.8K. The 8GB/256GB variant of the phone is priced at RMB 3,999 or around 31K. The insane Palace Edition of the phone is priced at RMB 4999, or around Php 38.7K.
