Xiaomi Pulls Android 8.0 Update For Mi A1 Because Of Performance Problems

Oreo will have to wait

Xiaomi has temporarily halted the roll out of the Android 8.0 Oreo update for Mi A1 users a few days ago. The company previously started pushing out the update to owners at the end of 2017, though several reports from people who received the update said their phones started exhibiting issues with several features right after.

Xiaomi Mi A1 specs

  • Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor
  • Adreno 506 GPU
  • 4GB RAM
  • 5.5-inch full HD display, 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass, 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • 64GB storage, expandable via microSD
  • 12-megapixel wide-angle primary camera, 12-megapixel telephoto (2x zoom) secondary camera, LED flash
  • 5-megapixel front camera
  • Dual-SIM
  • 3G, LTE
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS, Fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C, IR blaster
  • Android 7.1.2 Nougat (Android 8.0 Oreo within 2017)
  • 3,080mAh battery
  • Black, Gold, Rose Gold

Specifically, Mi A1 owers reported that they’re getting problems with the camera, dialer, recent apps as well as issues with the fingerprint sensor and battery life.

Issues with battery life is the most egregious, as the phone should have tremendous battery endurance thanks to its battery/processor combo. Xiaomi is delaying the update until they find out what exactly is causing the problems.
