Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 review Philippines: Despite sporting the same budget processor as its competitors, the Redmi Pad 2 distinguishes itself with LTE connectivity, as well as a sharp display and great build quality. It’s a great choice for people looking to grab an affordable slate for both work and play.
Pros
- Premium-feeling metal chassis
- Has a bright screen for the price
- Still retains a 3.5mm jack and microSD expansion
- Has support for stylus
Cons
- The display could be better
- No way to stick the stylus on the tablet
- Slow charging speed
On the hunt for an affordable tablet for your kid or a no-fuss device for casual home use? The Redmi Pad 2 is worth a look. This budget-friendly slate punches above its price tag with a sleek design that feels anything but cheap. It’s not flawless, as a lackluster display and middling performance hold it back from greatness, but for streaming, browsing, or keeping the kids entertained, it gets the job done without emptying your wallet.
Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 Review Philippines: Design
The Redmi Pad 2 looks like it could cost twice as much. At 7.4mm thin and just half a kilo, it’s easy to toss in a bag or hold on to during Netflix binges. The aluminum unibody feels premium, with clean lines and a matte finish that resists fingerprints better than most.
Unlike most phones and tablets nowadays, the Redmi Pad 2 has a 3.5mm jack and a microSD card slot for additional storage for media. Aside from that, the Redmi Pad 2 looks like your typical tablet. Both ends of the tab have two speakers each for stereo sound. There’s also a SIM slot available for cellular connectivity so that you’re not a slave to your phone’s hotspot when you’re out of home WiFi range.
Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 review Philippines: Display
The 11-inch IPS panel has a 90Hz refresh rate, along with your typical 1600 x 2560 resolution. The brightness tops out at 600 nits, which combined with the glare-prone screen makes it difficult to use outdoors, especially in direct sunlight.
As far as display quality goes, it’s good enough. You’re not going to be getting OLED-quality saturation or contrast here, but for the people it’s aimed at, it’s adequate. Just mind your viewing angles.
Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 review Philippines: Camera
Cameras on slates feel like something that’s put there to fulfill a contractual obligation for the tablet gods. Most people don’t use them and in turn, the photos that they produce aren’t great. That’s true for the Redmi Pad 2: the single 8-megapixel main camera is forgettable, and unless you left your phone behind or are using a clunker from 5 years ago, you’d be better off not using the tablet’s camera.
The front-facing selfie camera is good enough for Zoom calls.
Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 review Philippines: Performance, battery, software
The tablet runs the seemingly immortal MediaTek Helio G100 processor and is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, at least for our review variant. There’s a lower 6GB/128GB variant which is the variant that starts at Php 10,499, but you’d be better served by adding a little bit more to get the higher storage and RAM version that we have.
Anyway, we have a pretty good idea of how the Helio G100 works–it’s fine for regular use like social media and general productivity apps, as well as for light gaming like Mobile Legends. Genshin Impact is possible though you’d want to keep settings on low for the best experience.
The tablet runs on Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2, along with Android 15. And while there are still some pre-installed apps on the tablet we were pleasantly surprised that the bloat was kept to a minimum. We’ve complained about this particular problem enough times that we thought we’d get the same here, but not. Good job Xiaomi.
The tab has a large 9000mAh battery, which is good for a day and a half on a single charge with moderate use. The biggest problem with the battery is the fact that it charges so slow–charging taps out at 18W, and since it has such a large tank to fill, charging the tablet up to 100% feels like forever.
Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 review Philippines: wrap-up and verdict
It’s not the best or the fastest, but it’s hard to argue with the value you’re getting with the Redmi Pad 2 4G. Its premium design, vibrant display, and solid performance make it a compelling choice for students, casual users, or anyone looking for a secondary device. The display could be a tad better, and power users might want more grunt, but for most, his tablet delivers far more than its price suggests.
