They’ve managed to match their record in September
Last September Xiaomi shipped around 10 million smartphones in a single month, and the company has managed to repeat the same feat in October. Xiaomi’s founder, CEO Lei Jun posted the good news in his Weibo account, and also took the opportunity to remind Xiaomi faithful that their upcoming Mi 5X will go on sale on November 1.
Xiaomi has set an ambitious goal for themselves this year, looking to ship around 90 million phones. It’s a huge increase over last year’s shipments, which topped out at 58 million. To put the monumental task in perspective, Xiaomi only managed to sell only 70 million phones in 2015, its strongest year on record.
But Xiaomi is looking to make up lost ground from their lackluster performance in previous years, which saw the company ship as few as 58 million phones in one year back in 2016. Xiaomi is out and looking for blood, but it has a long way to go to catch up to Vivo, OPPO and Huawei who currently reside on #3, #2 and #1 spots in their home country of China.
