Huawei’s Latest Innovation Lets You Run Windows on a Smartphone

Made possible through cloud computing

Smartphones are getting more powerful every year. With internals matching those found in laptops, the next thing we imagine is a smartphone running a copy of Windows 10. Recently, Huawei demonstrated its Cloud PC cloud computing platform using a P20 Pro at CES Asia 2018 in Shanghai.

For those unfamiliar with the term, cloud computing makes use of internet-hosted remote servers instead of physical computers. While it saves costs on purchasing new equipment, a fast and stable internet connection is a must-need for cloud computing to function properly.

Tech blogger Notebook Italia shared a hands-on video, where Windows 10 apps like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel ran through the P20 Pro’s 6.1-inch display.

While the display size is a tad too small for most people, the demo showcased the phone running Windows 10 through a big screen via a USB-C connection.

Aside from the P20 Pro, other phones that support Huawei Cloud PC include the P20, Mate RS, Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, and Mediapad M5. However, Huawei Cloud PC is only available in China, and we wish that Huawei makes it available globally so that we can have access to Photoshop and Premiere at the palm of our hand.
