2022 MG ZS Has Arrived in the Philippines

The MG ZS has remained the same from top to bottom since its first launch back in 2018. A refresh is obviously needed to help it compete with the current front-runners in the segment. Although it took some time, the 2022 MG ZS is finally here in the Philippines, spicing things up in the subcompact crossover segment.

Although MG Philippines is a bit late in bringing in the refreshed model, the updates are substantial enough to make up for this. In fact, a new variant has been introduced, which is called the Trophy. It will be the new top-of-the-line variant for the ZS model.

Starting from the outside, the headlights and grille are obviously new. Gone are the famous “London eye” and “stardust grille,” the new headlights and grille are sharper and flashier. The rear bumper is also redesigned together with the taillights. Moreover, the refreshed MG ZS bears the new MG logo which is black and flat looking as opposed to the current logo that is silver and 3D looking. As mentioned, there is a new top-of-the-line variant. This variant features high-gloss black mirrors, red brake calipers, and two-tone 17-inch “Tomahawk” wheels with 215/55/R17 tires.

Although MG Philippines did not provide interior shots of the refreshed MG ZS, we can expect it to have a new floating 10.1-inch infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and an improved material finishing based on the models launched abroad. In addition, we can also expect two-tone black and red leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, a keyless entry system, a push start-stop button, and a powered driver’s seat. The MG Pilot system is also present in the MG ZS Trophy abroad, so we can expect this advanced driver assist system as well. It includes adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitoring system, lane departure warning, and forward-collision warning.

As confirmed, the new MG ZS will be offered in a brand-new 1.3-liter direct-injection turbocharged 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 162 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission. MG says the new engine can do 15.15 km/L combined. The old normally-aspirated 1.5-liter engine will still be available in the lower variants of MG ZS. However, it will be mated to a CVT instead of the old 4-speed automatic transmission. Said engine produces 118 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque.

2022 MG ZS Philippines

There is no price released as of the moment but we can expect the 2022 MG ZS Trophy to retail around P1,100,000 in the Philippines, close to the Geely Coolray and Ford Territory. The refreshed MG ZS will surely make the subcompact crossover segment more exciting than ever.
