3 Alternatives To Vanced

3 Alternatives To Vanced

If you haven’t heard, the team behind Vanced, an Android app that allowed people to watch YouTube videos on mobile without all the annoying ads in them, has announced that the app has been officially discontinued. That means while the app is still functional as of press time, once significant changes are done by Google to YouTube’s API in the future, it will no longer function. Worry not though – there are a few alternatives to Vanced that you can download to replace it:

3 Vanced Alternatives

  • YMusic
  • LibreTube
  • NewPipe

YMusic

YMusic is an app that allows you to listen only listen to the audio of a YouTube video, which is great for people who mostly use the app to listen to music and/or podcasts. Since the app doesn’t stream video, you’ll be cutting down on data costs when you’re using it.

You can also download YouTube videos easily into whatever format you want, and YMusic automatically detects the Artist’s name and album using the last.fm service, making categorizing downloaded music easier.

There are no ads here, and you can also download Like the two other alternatives in this list, YMusic is not available to download via Google Play (it’s not hard to see why). You’ll have to download it via their website here.

LibreTube

LibreTube is a feature-rich alternative to Vanced, and unlike the recently c&d’d app, it’s an open-source app that’s essentially a specialized browser of YouTube, which makes legal takedowns a little more difficult.

The app allows for the use of user accounts, subscriptions, search suggestions, channel playlists as well as having the ability to block ads and is able to be played in the background.

You’ll have to download the app via their GitHub page, here.

NewPipe

NewPipe is yet another app that’s meant to address YouTube’s annoying, ad-infested experience, focusing on privacy and ease of use. The app uses very few resources on your phone and allows for both ad-blocking and background video playback. You can download and create your own playlists and download videos off of YouTube.

Like LibreTube, Newpipe is an open source app that acts as a specialized browser for YouTube, which makes legal takedowns a lot harder to accomplish, unlike Vanced. You can download the app from their page here.
