AMD Introduces FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0

To go along with the release of Adrenalin Edition 2022, AMD introduces a new version of its upscaling technology with FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0. To be made available by second quarter of 2022, Super Resolution 2.0 makes use of temporal data and optimized anti-aliasing to boost framerates in supported frames while delivering a higher resolution. Super Resolution 2.0 will be supported by different AMD GPUs and GPUs from other brands.

“FSR 2.0 infuses new life into current-generation graphics cards, bolstering performance and delivering next-level immersive experiences. These technologies make games come alive, and we will continue to deliver powerful and innovative features and capabilities that push the boundaries of high-performance, immersive gaming,” AMD Gaming Solutions Chief Architect Frank Azor said.

To demonstrate the capabilities of Super Resolution 2.0, AMD showed game footage from Deathloop, where Super Resolution 2.0 was able to preserve more detail than its earlier iteration in both lower performance and high quality presets. To an extent, Super Resolution 2.0 was able to resolve more detail compared to the game’s native 4K rendering.

Aside from Deathloop, more games are expected to support Super Resolution 2.0 as it can be adopted to PC, consoles, and even mobile–it’s all up to the game developer on how they can use the feature to improve the overall visual quality of their titles.
