Apple Is Halting The M2 Chip Due To Weak Performance

Yes, you heard that right. Apple isn’t really happy with the way its M2 chip is performing, and several other factors have led to the decision to axe it for now. This comes as a shock since the first M1 processor was definitely groundbreaking for the tech giant. Why could this have happened and what’s next in store for us consumers?

Before we get on with it, let us clarify – the Apple M2 chip isn’t necessarily cancelled. It’s just going to be delayed for a bit more, around 2 months. People are speculating that the next logical step would be to go back to the drawing board and redo some aspects that could be more competitive within the market. The laptop and PC market has slowed down considerably as of late, a stark contrast to the sudden boom at the start of the pandemic. It’s a little ironic considering that we had an actual chip shortage at the time; and now that stocks can finally meet demand, the latter is beginning to wither.

The Apple M2 Chip is no slouch. The company has invested quite a lot to obtain 35% stronger GPU performance thanks to the addition of two new cores, alongside promising 20% increased better performance than a competing Intel Core i7 all while consuming a fourth of the power. Given that Apple marketed this quite heavily, the statements appear not to be falsehoods.

With this type of performance, users can edit multiple 4K videos at the same time without experiencing stuttering or lag issues. Multitasking is the name of the game here.

Sadly, it appears that Apple has bitten more than it can chew with its upcoming projects. The team is developing too many products at the same time and stumbling on roadblocks because they don’t have the necessary resources to finish through. It’s not that Apple is lacking power, but even a well-known goliath of a firm has its limits.

There are also other factors like fewer NAND memory chips on M2 Macbook Pros than M1 Macbook Pros. So even if the processor advantage is held by the newer model, the fact that it also has slower memory speeds can bog it down and level out the playing field. It’s certain that Apple needs to rethink its strategy with the M2 chip. It’s definitely a weapon if used correctly – so don’t squander it.

The headline is misleading as well as the article. If you read the leading Apple sites, it is not the technical performance that is the issue, the issue is the sales performance.
