Last June, we reported that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced that they are targeting the opening of the BGC-Ortigas Road Link this September 2021. Now that it is already September, it seems that the DPWH is keeping its word on the completion of this project.
During a site inspection over the weekend, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar has stated that the viaduct is right on track with the agency’s time estimation and that the final 565-meter viaduct, which will connect Kalayaan Avenue in Makati and 8th Avenue in BGC, Taguig will be finished this month.
Once completed, this last segment will complete the whole 1.48 kilometer BGC-Ortigas Center Road Link.
The DPWH is currently working day and night on the completion of this segment and is now working at the 8th Avenue portion of the viaduct in BGC
“I am grateful for the dedication of our engineers and workers on the ground undertaking round-the-clock construction, rain or shine, to ensure we meet our target opening of the final viaduct segment of BGC-Ortigas Center Road Link Project,” said Villar.
You may recall that the DPWH has already opened the first phase of the BGC-Ortigas Center Road Link last June 12, which is the Kalayaan Bridge that connects Sta. Monica in Pasig City and Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City.
With the upcoming finalization and construction of the project’s last segment, the DPWH is expecting to reduce travel time between BGC and Ortigas to only 12 minutes. The project will also be able to help decongest EDSA and C5 traffic by up to 20%.
