BPI is updating its app, as it will end its loading service for Maya and GCash by February 13. In its advisory, BPI explained that this is meant for them to comply with the National Retail Payment System Framework by the BSP through BSP Circular 980 and Philippine Payments Management, Inc. (PPMI) Advisory No. 2024-1104-020.
Before you worry about the feature completely disappearing on the app, those looking to load their GCash and Maya accounts can do so under the BPI App’s “Transfer to Other Banks” Feature–and select G-Xchange for GCash and Maya Philippines Inc/Maya Wallet for Maya. One big disclaimer: BPI charges a hefty Php 25 transfer fee if you send money from your BPI account to your GCash and Maya account.
If you want to pay less for transaction fees, you can work around this by linking your BPI account to your Maya account and cashing in using the Maya app. With this approach, you only pay Php 5 in transaction fees from your BPI account to your Maya account. The same also applies to GCash users: linking your BPI account to the GCash app lets you cash in and only pay Php 5 in transaction fees.
With that workaround, you save Php 20 in transaction fees, which you can use for other things like loading your prepaid mobile number or for making small purchases.
