Do you have a bunch of coins lying around that you either 1) don’t want to use for paying goods or 2) would like to find a way to deposit them into your e-Wallet? The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has a solution to that with its Coin Deposit Machines. Made possible in partnership with SM Retail, Inc., Robinsons Supermarket Corporation, and Filinvest Lifemalls Corporation, the Coin Deposit Machine project aims to let the public “deposit their idle coins stored in their jars, piggy banks, and other containers in accessible, convenient, and efficient coin exchange facilities in participating malls.”

Making its soft launch last June 20, the BSP Coin Deposit Machines are initially available at SM MOA–where there will be two machines, Robinsons Place Ermita, and Festival Supermall. Aside from those three locations, the BSP plans to add six more machines at select locations in the Greater Metro Manila area in the coming days.

The BSP also mentioned in their FAQ that they will deploy 15 more machines in other establishments from June to August 2023–they will announce through their social media pages where these Coin Deposit Machines will be located.

The main idea of these Coin Deposit Machines is that users can conveniently deposit legal tender coins to the machine and directly credit the equivalent amount to their GCash e-Wallets. Aside from GCash, the BSP said that they are in talks with Maya as well to be on board with the project so that users have more options on where they can deposit their coins.

Aside from the option of being deposited in e-Wallets, machines at SM MOA and Festival Mall can choose to redeem the value of their deposited coins in the form of SM shopping vouchers. All Coin Deposit Machines will accept all denominations (i.e., 1-, 5-, 10-, and 25-Sentimo; and 1-, 5-, 10-, and 20-Piso) of the BSP Coin Series and the New Generation Currency Coin Series.
