When you talk about hybrid vehicles, what usually comes into mind are vans, sedans, and MPVs. But what if there is a truck—specifically a pickup truck—that is electrified? That’s the main selling point of the BYD Shark 6 DMO, which has become official in the Philippines today (March 7).
With rivals like the Ford Ranger Raptor and the Toyota Hilux GR-S, the Shark 6 DMO approaches things differently by using two electric motors (one on each axle) and BYD’s trademark Blade battery that’s rated for up to 100km on a single charge. With the range extender, the Shark 6 DMO can cover up to 800km, though BYD managed to do over 1000kms with a roadtrip from Manila to Ilocos and back.
Despite being an electrified pickup truck, the Shark 6 DMO has a wading depth of 700mm and rides on 265/65R18 tires, making it capable for off-road use. Powering the Shark 6 DMO is a dual-motor system that outputs 430hp and 630nm torque, and its 1.5L turbocharged gas engine acts as a generator to extend the range of its 29.58wHr battery.
While having the same electrified approach as BYD’s Sealion 6 DM-i and Seal 5 DM-i, what makes the Shark 6 DMO different is its dual mode off-road drivetrain that does away with the usual 4-wheel drive modes and instead offers different terrain modes like mud, sand, gravel, and snow.
Just like your typical BYD, the Shark 6 DMO has all the amenities you’d expect like adaptive cruise control, double wishbone front and rear suspension, a digital instrument cluster, 12-speaker DynaAudio system, and BYD’s familiar rotating infotainment display.
Being an electrified pickup, the Shark 6 DMO supports vehicle to load (V2L) with its abundance of outlets both inside and at the truck bed to plug in different gadgets and appliances, making it an ideal vehicle of choice if you’re going on a camping trip.
The Shark 6 DMO is priced at Php 2,098,000 for the Advanced model and Php 2,298,000 for the Premium model and is available for reservation at your nearest BYD dealer.
Those who will order before March 31 will get a Php 50,000 discount, and BYD owners and referrals will get an additional Php 50,000 discount.
