Canon Looking to Partner with a Smartphone Brand

Phone brands nowadays have been partnering with established camera brands: you have Hasselblad with OnePlus and OPPO, Leica with Xiaomi and Sharp, and Zeiss with Sony and vivo. A common denominator here is that the camera brands involved are all European ones. To spice things up, Canon is looking to partner with a phone brand according to Digital Chat Station.

As absurd as it may sound, the idea of Canon actually partnering with a phone brand is possible–it’s a matter of which brand Canon chooses to partner with. Given that Digital Chat Station is based in China, this most likely mean that Canon will probably partner with a Chinese phone brand–and possible candidates right now include HONOR, realme, and TECNO. These are the brands we have in mind since they are the ones that are actively focused with elevating the camera performance of their phones.

This is not the first time that a Japanese camera brand was reported to partner with a phone brand: back in 2021, there was a wild rumor that Samsung was going to partner with Olympus for the cameras of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. This was refuted by Olympus months later, and we only got the 200-megapixel sensor with the Galaxy S23 Ultra that was announced last February 2023.
