Chevrolet Philippines Drops Half of Their Model Line Up

Chevrolet Philippines Drops Half of Their Model Line Up

According to reports, Chevrolet Philippines has dropped half of the vehicles in its line up. Autoindustriya first spotted this the other day, and visiting Chevrolet’s site ourselves, we can confirm that the Chevrolet Sail, Malibu, Trax, Trailblazer, Tahoe, and Colorado are all gone on the automaker’s website. Only the Tracker, Spark, Suburban, Camaro, and Corvette remain listed.

Chevrolet Philippines Drops Half of Their Model Line UpThis doesn’t come as a surprise since General Motors ceased its operations in Thailand last year. The declining sales brought about by the aging models and poor customer retention have led to the eventual failure of the brand in Thailand, with the shutdown affecting many other Asian countries, not just the Philippines. This is because many Chevrolet models including the Trailblazer SUV and the Colorado Pickup are made in Thailand. It was only a matter of time for The Covenant Car Company Inc (TCCCI), the official distributor of Chevrolet in the country, to run out of units to sell.

The Chevrolet Tahoe and Sail, although not sourced from Thailand, were also dropped. This is probably because the said models were not doing well in terms of sales.

With the exit of the Chevy Colorado and Trailblazer, Chevrolet Philippines is now left with only 2 volume-sellers in their line up: The Spark and the Tracker. However, the recent launch of the Chevrolet Tracker from China might give us a hint of what’s to come. There’s a huge possibility that Chevy Philippines will start sourcing some of its vehicles from China. After all, TCCI is no stranger to importing China-made vehicles. In fact, they are the distributor of MG vehicles in the country. They have long been enjoying the benefits of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement, so don’t be surprised to see more China-made Chevrolets in the future.

If you are interested in buying the remaining units of the discontinued Chevy models, you can check them on Chevrolet’s “Legacy Models” Website. TCCI will make the Trailblazer, Colorado, or Trax available in your nearest Chevy dealership.
