DICT Broadband ng Masa Program Expands to Davao City

DICT continues to expand the coverage of its Broadband ng Masa Free WiFi program–this time in Davao City. The program kicked off at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) – Obrero Campus in Davao City. Through this initiative, DICT Sec. Ivan John Uy hopes that Broadband ng Masa will help students further with their academics.

For the official rollout of Broadband ng Masa in Davao City, two WiFi hotspots were installed at USeP Obrero campus, and DICT plans to install 22 more WiFi hotspots in state universities and colleges in the Davao region.

“Many of our learners will finally gain better access to learning materials in cyberspace. [This] will also contribute to improving the quality of education by providing more online access to libraries, collaborative efforts in communicating with peers and experts from all over the world, and the utilization of digital tools in enhancing our learning experience,” Uy said in a statement.

Prior to this, the DICT rolled out its Broadband ng Masa Program in Antique last March.

Aside from the Broadband ng Masa program, the DICT is working to provide Free WiFi access to remote areas through the use of Starlink.

“We have been helping SpaceX and Starlink in facilitating requirements that they have to go through so they can bring this technology up and running at the soonest possible time,” Uy said in a statement last July 2022.
