DOTr Unveils North-South Commuter Railway Project

Feast your eyes with the state-of-the-art and single largest flagship project of the current administration. This is the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Project.

It’s a massive 147-km rail transport route, comprising of 37 stations and 464 train cars. It stretches across 28 cities and municipalities within the three regions of Central Luzon, National Capital Region, and CALABARZON.

The NSCR encompasses three segments: The PNR Clark Phase 1 (Tutuban – Malolos), which is a 38-km rail line that will reduce travel time from Tutuban in Manila to Malolos in Bulacan from 1 hour and 30 minutes to just 30 minutes. The PNR Clark Phase 2 (Malolos-Clark), a 53-km rail line that will reduce travel time from Malolos in Bulacan to Clark in Pampanga from 2 hours down to 30-35 minutes. The 3rd NSCR segment, PNR Calamba (Solis-Calamba) is a 56-kilometer train line that will connect Metro Manila (Solis Street, Tondo) and Calamba, Laguna will reduce travel time from the usual 4 hours down to 1 hour.

The train set measures 160 meters in length and has an operational speed of 120kph. Moreover, it can accommodate over 2,228 passengers per train set.

Once the entire project is complete and operational, it will serve over a million passengers a day.

The project is co-financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
