The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently on a roll as the agency has been completing and launching projects one after another. In their most recent update, DPWH said the BGC-Kalayaan viaduct will open next month.
The agency aims to complete and open the other half of the work for the BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project before the end of the third quarter this year.
According to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the DPWH has been working on the viaduct segment across Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City towards 8th Avenue in Bonifacio Global City since the opening of the new Sta Monica-Lawton Bridge, which is now known as “Kalayaan Bridge.” He further added that “DPWH Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations have fast-tracked the work as we target to fully complete the BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project in the third quarter of the year.”
DPWH Undersecretary Sadain together with UPMO Roads Management Cluster 1 Project Director Benjamin Bautista and Project Manager Ricarte Mañalac conducted an inspection on the ongoing works for the BGC-Kalayaan viaduct. They reported that the project is in full swing with some of the pre-fabricated girders or the horizontal support structure of the slabs already installed on top of piers. In addition, the piers on bored piles for the elevated structure along 8th Avenue are already done while construction of a lean concrete retaining wall for the approach ramp at 8th Avenue has already started.
The P5.72 Billion BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project involves the construction of the 440-meter 4-lane Kalayaan Bridge, rehabilitation and widening of 362 meter Brixton (corner Reliance St.) to Fairlane Street, and 565-meter viaduct structure traversing Lawton Avenue onwards to the entrance of Bonifacio Global City. The project is part of the EDSA Decongestion Program and was designed to accommodate an estimated 20 percent of the traffic volume of EDSA and C-5. Once completed, it will reduce travel time between BGC and Ortigas Center from one hour down to just 12 minutes.
