EA to Shut Down Apex Legends Mobile on May 1

After barely only a year since it went live, Electronic Arts announced that it will shut down Apex Legends Mobile on May 1.

Despite all the hype and anticipation that Apex Legends Mobile got last year, it appears that the mobile port could not sustain the same hype as the PC version did. Electronic Arts announced that they have decided to shut down Apex Legends Mobile by May 1, making the game barely a year old before the unfortunate announcement.

In EA’s statement, they explained that while Apex Legends Mobile had a strong start, it had “begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence.” EA also stated that the Respawn and Apex Legends teams have mutually agreed to end the game–but hinted that they will be possibly working on new mobile titles in the future.

Following the announcement, EA will disable all real money in-app purchases, along with removing the game from webstores. From there, players can still play the game and spend their existing Syndicate Gold until May 1.

Aside from the decision to shut down Apex Legends Mobile, EA also announced that they will cease development on Battlefield Mobile as well. “we decided to pivot from the current direction to best deliver on our vision for the franchise and to meet the expectations of our players,” EA explained in their statement.
