Final Answer? Elon Musk Has No Plans of Acquiring TikTok

ByteDance now has until April 5 to divest its US operations for TikTok, and it remains to be seen what will be their plans. There are multiple prospective buyers for TikTok, and Elon Musk is not one of them–at least based on what he said during an interview at the WELT Economic Summit last January 28.

“I don’t have any plans for what would I do if I had TikTok,” Musk said in the interview. “I guess I would look at the algorithm and try to decide: How helpful or useful is this algorithm? And what can we do to shift the algorithm to be more productive and ultimately be beneficial to humanity?”

This dispels previous reports that Musk has plans to buy out TikTok, where the plan was that X will take over TikTok’s US operations. Aside from confirming that he has no plans to buy TikTok, Musk also adds that he does not use the social media platform personally–and is not familiar with it.

Aside from talking about Tiktok, Musk’s interview at the WELT Economic Summit focused on his plans for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which was recently flagged for being a potential National Security Risk.
