Sony A9G: Proof that TVs are Not Obsolete

Do we still need a TV at home?

People face multiple screens a day.  Most of us have at least one mobile device, we have our laptop and/or desktop and some even own tablets.  We can use these gadgets, not just for work and social media but also to consume content from YouTube, Netflix and other apps of choice.  It’s only natural to wonder if we still need television at home.

When I moved out of my parent’s house a couple of years ago, I had a very limited budget. Naturally, buying a television was not a priority. In fact, I lived without a TV and watched movies and TV shows on my laptop for 6 years!  When I got married though, my husband insisted on buying a TV and only then did I realize that I was missing out.

Do we need a TV at home?  Given that I lived 6 years without one, then my answer would be no.  Having said that, I must say that it is an INCREDIBLE THING TO HAVE. There’s nothing like taking my shoes off and plopping onto the couch to watch my favorite shows after a long day at work.  Popcorn and snacks are a welcome bonus. 🙂

Far from obsolete.

Much like mobile devices, TVs have evolved a lot the past couple of years.  What used to be a chunky block with a small, square screen is now incredibly slim, sleek and intelligent.  TVs are far from obsolete and Sony’s new A9G 4K HDR OLED TV is a testament to that.

Part of Sony’s Flagship Master Series

I flew to Singapore for the Southeast Asian Launch of Sony Bravia TVs and the A9G was the star.  It is part of the Master Series which is the best of the best when it comes the brand’s television lineup and here’s why:

It is powered by the next generation Picture Processor X1 for premium picture quality and color contrast. This means that you can enjoy 4K content to the fullest as images come to life in stunning clarity. It even improves SD and HD content to near 4K HDR quality.  The absolute blacks of OLED technology make the colors pop and pictures become even more realistic.

Aside from picture quality, audio is also very important for an immersive viewing experience.  The Acoustic Surface Audio+ feature produces incredible multi-dimensional sound for better entertainment.  The TV Center Speaker Mode provides viewers with the choice to use the screen as the speaker so it seems as if the voice is really coming from the mouth of the actor.

It has Dolby Vision for vivid picture quality and Dolby Atmos for incredible surround sound. On top of that, it is IMAX Enhanced so you can enjoy IMAX content to the fullest.

The 55” and 65” variants have an impressively slim form factor.  You can simply place it on a TV rack or mount on your wall. Either way, the A9G looks good and will blend effortlessly in your room.

It has a hands-free voice search feature so now, you don’t have to hold the remote to communicate with the TV.  Simply talk to it to find your favorite shows or ask whatever question you have and it will answer.

If you’re sick of having multiple remote controls and find it confusing, the good news is, the Sony A9G has a smart remote that enables you to set up top boxes and other devices via HDMI.  All you need is 1 smart remote control for everything.

Worth the Wait

If you’re convinced that TVs are not obsolete and are looking into purchasing the A9G, you’ll have to wait.  It won’t be available in the Philippines till the 3rd quarter of the year and there’s no local pricing to date.  Of course, with tech of this caliber, we know that it won’t come cheap, but if you’re ready to splurge for premium entertainment, then the Sony Bravia A9G may be worth the wait.
