One of the annoying things with Facebook’s comments section is that you don’t know if the comments are relevant to the post or are simply trolling. For their latest update, Facebook shared in a post that they are finding ways to crack down on irrelevant comments, and one of them is by adding a “downvote” button similar to what you have in Reddit.
The idea of the “downvote” button in Facebook is simple: it signals to people if the comment is irrelevant to the conversation, saving you time from replying to useless remarks or comments that have no connection to the actual post. The goal of is that it will hide the comment if it gets enough downvotes.
Facebook also wants to address spam content. For posts, it will reduce distribution and make them ineligible for monetization if there are too many hashtags and if captions are too long and unrelated. As for spam content, Facebook will flag accounts that share the same content (you’d probably have a bunch on your feeds) and penalize them with lower audience reach and make them ineligible for monetization as well. The long and short of it is that for posts, Facebook will encourage more authentic and original content.
“We want the creator community to know that we’re committed to rewarding creators who create and share engaging content on Facebook,” they added in their post.
