It’s been months since we talked about the EV Jeep from Francisco Motors as a potential option for jeepney modernization. Owner Elmer Francisco was also looking to bring the cost for the first 1000 units to under Php 1 million–or Php 985,000 to be specific. We haven’t heard any major updates since then, but we were surprised to see a new version of the Fransisco Motors EV Jeep called the Pinoy Transporter at BGC.
Compared to the one shared with us several months ago, this EV Jeepney looks more polished design-wise, with features like LED headlights, an electronic side door, and air conditioning. While couldn’t ride inside, the interior layout looks similar to the modern jeeps that ply around Quezon Avenue. A small detail we noticed is the presence of a conduction sticker, which indicates that the EV Jeep we spotted might be close to actual production.
Aside from the EV Jeep, we also spotted the Kidlat (low roof) and Kidlat+ (high roof) EV vans, which have five rows of seats inside and are purely electric. Francisco posted that the Kidlat can comfortably seat 15 passengers inside.
From the day we saw both vehicles (October 23), Francisco posted that they were among the new vehicles they were working on. As for technical details, the Kidlat is rated for 250km on a single charge, but Francisco will offer an optional range extender that can stretch the mileage to as much as 1200km.
