GCash Issues Statement on November 9 Incident

GCash Issues Statement on November 9 Incident

A lot of Gcash users faced a serious issue today (November 9), where several users allegedly had their accounts compromised. According to the reports, several GCash users reported several unauthorized transactions happening at the early hours of November 9. The unauthorized transactions involved several withdrawals amounting to Php 2,000.

Affected users claimed that they did not click any link, and that they did not receive any OTPs on their end. They also allegedly said that scammers bypassed Gcash security measures, but we could not find sny concrete claim about this.

Among those affected is actress Pokwang, where she lost Php 85,000 from her GCash account. Dreamscape publicity head Eric John Salut was also affected, where he lost around Php 45,000.

It took a few hours before GCash has officially issued a statement, where they explained that the issue was “due to errors in an ongoing system reconciliation process”. GCash explained that the incident is isolated to a few users, and assured that they are doing the adjustments to affected wallets. “We assure our customers that their accounts are safe,” GCash explained in its statement.

Prior to the November 9 incident, Gcash had a scheduled system maintenance for all services for two hours on October 22 and 24.

    Good day
To whom it may concern, it is mentioned that only a few accounts were affected by this recent security breach by hackers, affecting only the well off citizens of the Philippines. What about the lower class to whom even ph1000 is the difference starving being able to feed your family. On mention was made addressing refunding those accounts that lost pesos. Is anyone at Gash speaking or representing the disenfranchised majority?

Matagal na yan nangyaysri, way back 2023, of December. What Pokwang and others experience in the lost of money, happen also to my gcash account. We even even reported the incident to your office regarding that matter and require us to submit copy of the transaction. But the resulf, no action taken.

As a company why don’t you an office where your customers can come and resolve issues? Your bot is useless. It’s just a front , deception, and hindrance to the shortcomings of your customer service. Your day will come when there will be a Senate inquiry on your. Personally, I have money on my GCash cash account but I cannot access it because I’m restricted. GCash is not in the business to help customers.

My GCash account was deducted Php99 per week although I didn’t subscribe to any service. I tried several ways to unsubscribe to the service but failed. So I’m not using GCash anymore. I use Maya instead.

It seems unusual that an update or “reconciliation” would cause this sort of what is clearly unauthorized transactions. I am not sure how they expect their explanation to change the narrative.

I have always had difficulty determining how to reach anyone to request additional details for a transaction that I may not clearly remember. I know that there is a scam report function, but not everything is a scam.

Statements/ transactions reports need more details. AFAIK, even the data entered by the client into the provided space in the gcssh payment screen does not show up anywhere, so what is the point?

Gcash needs to improve its client experience.

Is it being fully regulated as a bank / financial institution as it should be?

My money in gcash was also stolen by somebody who is knowledgeable on gcash app on which my hard earned 45k got lost. I tried to bring the matter to gcash hotline PNP cybercrime also but could not solve the problem. I even submitted transaction receipts, date of transactions and the time it happened. I requested the gcash hotline even to suspend their accounts only but to no avail. According to the hotline it’s the scammer who will suspend their gcash app not the company.
