A lot of Gcash users faced a serious issue today (November 9), where several users allegedly had their accounts compromised. According to the reports, several GCash users reported several unauthorized transactions happening at the early hours of November 9. The unauthorized transactions involved several withdrawals amounting to Php 2,000.
Affected users claimed that they did not click any link, and that they did not receive any OTPs on their end. They also allegedly said that scammers bypassed Gcash security measures, but we could not find sny concrete claim about this.
Among those affected is actress Pokwang, where she lost Php 85,000 from her GCash account. Dreamscape publicity head Eric John Salut was also affected, where he lost around Php 45,000.
It took a few hours before GCash has officially issued a statement, where they explained that the issue was “due to errors in an ongoing system reconciliation process”. GCash explained that the incident is isolated to a few users, and assured that they are doing the adjustments to affected wallets. “We assure our customers that their accounts are safe,” GCash explained in its statement.
Prior to the November 9 incident, Gcash had a scheduled system maintenance for all services for two hours on October 22 and 24.
