Globe Discourages Late Postpaid Payments with Php 50 Fee

You might want to avoid beating the deadline for postpaid bills soon, as Globe announced that they will impose a Php 50 late fee starting December 1.

In a statement sent to ABS-CBN News, Globe explained that paying postpaid bills on time ensures uninterrupted service for its mobile and broadband postpaid subscribers. Globe reiterated that the Php 50 late fee is not new; it has been part of Globe’s subscription agreement with their customers. “We want to veer away from the usual practice of disconnecting services over unpaid balances,” Globe said in its press statement.

“With today’s business environment when other sectors and even the government are charging late payment fees, an example is the LTO, we believe that the telco sector may follow suit.”

Globe Head for Consumer Mobile Business Darius Delgado even reiterated that only around 5% of its subscribers will be affected by this policy, as 95% of Globe’s user base are prepaid subscribers.

While late fees are a common practice, some argue that Globe should not strictly impose them. This is an argument made by ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro, where she explained that the late fees will be an added burden to Filipinos given the rising costs of goods and services.

Even if Globe’s late fees are part of its subscriber agreement, Castro vows to call for an investigation regarding the policy, which can cover other telcos and utilities.
