People aren’t happy with the new data caps of Globe

We previously reported that Globe has officially moved away from daily data caps to monthly data caps on their Tattoo Home DSL plans and a lot of people ain’t happy with the change. A new petition on Change.org is demanding that Globe remove the new plans because it’s unfair to the consumer. Here’s a recap of the data allocations for the new plan:

• For DSL 1 Mbps: 10 GB per account per month
• For DSL 2 Mbps: 10 GB per account per month
• For DSL 3 Mbps: 15 GB per account per month
• For DSL 5 Mbps: 20 GB per account per month
• For DSL 7 Mbps: 30 GB per account per month

Here’s the old data allocations:

For DSL 1 Mbps: 3 GB per account per day
• For DSL 2 Mbps: 5 GB per account per day
• For DSL 3 Mbps: 7 GB per account per day
• For DSL 5 Mbps: 10 GB per account per day
• For DSL 7 Mbps: 10 GB per account per day

It’s not hard to feel bad for the people who are railing against Globe’s new plans. Under the old scheme, a single household under the 1Mbps plan had at least 90 GB of bandwith available to them for 30 days. Under the new plan, subscribers only have 10GB of data a month – we’ve downloaded and played games on Steam that are more than 10GB. It’s also important to note that old subscribers will be unaffected – only new subs and people renewing their subs will be affected by the new scheme.

While Globe’s rival Smart has also moved to bucket data schemes, it’s only been done with mobile devices in mind which as a general rule consume less data than notebooks and PCs. As for the petition, there’s currently 929 supporters as of writing, and is really close to reaching its 1,000 signatory goal.
