Globe Successfully Deploys 5G VoNR in the Philippines

Globe expands its 5G network by successfully deploying VoNR (Voice over New Radio) in the Philippines, marking a significant step towards updating their network to the latest standards.

VoNR is a pioneering voice solution built over a 5G standalone network that promises enhanced voice quality, rapid call setup, and seamless handovers. The tech is a significant leap for voice communication as it provides crystal-clear audio with minimal distortion, optimized bandwidth usage, and seamless simultaneous voice and data transmission.

VoNR’s capabilities is derived from lower latencies, which results in shorter call setup times and quicker call connections. This also enables more concurrent voice calls within a given network.

“Globe’s successful deployment of VoNR technology is a testament to our commitment to innovation and to providing our customers with the best telecom experience possible,” Globe Head of Technology, Strategy, and Innovation Gerhard Tan said. “VoNR is not just about improved voice quality and faster connections— it’s about the future of integrated communication. By harnessing the power of 5G, we’re opening up a world of possibilities for both our enterprise and individual customers and redefining what’s possible with voice services.”

This innovation breakthrough follows Globe’s expansion of its 5G network to 66 sites for Q1 2023. This resulted in a 5G coverage of 97.21% in the NCR region and 90.28% in key cities in Visayas and Mindanao.
