Google is no stranger in streamlining all of its services. Some services like Google+ was closed down for good, while the likes of Meet and Duo will be merged into one app. This shows that Google wants to update its messaging apps to have better leverage against other messaging platforms.

In its announcement, Google explains that they are updating Duo to include all of the features of Google Meet. “This integrated experience will provide users with a single solution for both video calling and meetings with people across their lives.”

For the integration, Google said that it will start integrating Meet features to Duo in the coming weeks. Eventually, Duo will be officially named Google Meet, which the tech giant describes as “a single video communications service across Google that is available to everyone at no-cost.”

With the integration, you still get some of Duo’s key features like making video calls using a registered phone number or email address and using Google Assistant to call using registered devices. To ensure a seamless transition, Google assures users that no new app will need to be downloaded.

Google’s move to integrate Duo and Meet into one app is proof that the tech giant wants to match all of the features Apple’s FaceTime has to offer. One of FaceTime’s new features is having group audio and video calls, with the messaging app capable of handling as many as 32 participants.

In addition to that, integrating Meet and Duo should also help the tech giant in making a more seamless ecosystem with all Android and ChromeOS devices.
