There’s a little confusion about the implementation of RA 10913
Tomorrow will be the first day of the strict implementation of RA 10913, or the Anti-distracted Driving Law in the Philippines. While much of the verbiage of the law is pretty clear (we explain it here), a news report from ABS CBN has been circulating yesterday that has many people confused and worried.
The report’s headline says that gadgets on car’s windshields are now banned starting tomorrow. Now the headline is a little confusing because taken literally, it means that the ban also includes dashcams, a gadget that’s fast becoming a common sight in the metro.
Thankfully, the Department Of Transportation (DOTr) has issued a clarification that clearly shows where your dashcam and your phone should be to be in compliance with the law.
As you can see above, dashcams and even phones are allowed to be mounted in the vehicle so long as it does not block the line of sight of the driver. As the DOTr clarified, you can use Waze while driving, as long as you set up your destination before pulling out to traffic.
