If you are looking to enjoy 5G, fiber-like speeds at the comfort of your home, Smart announced its own 5G prepaid Home WiFi kit with the Smart Bro Home WiFi 5G. Priced at Php 15,995 (with 20GB open access data valid for 7 days), it is one of the few 5G home WiFi options consumers can buy right now.

The modem has 6 WiFi antennas, two Ethernet ports, and WiFi 6 connectivity for better coverage with supported devices. It’s capable of connecting to up to 10 WiFi devices, ensuring everyone at home gets to use its 5G connectivity.

It also features special artwork from award-winning illustrator Stephanie Bravo Semilla that showcases how 5G connects families to their many passions at the comfort of their homes.

While it is expensive for a prepaid Home WiFi kit, the main selling point is that it offers 5G connectivity. So how fast and reliable is Smart’s 5G Home WiFi offering? We got our hands on the kit and did a few speed tests in different locations at our home studio.

Placing the modem by the window, we got download speeds of 124Mbps and upload speeds of 24.7Mbps, which is close to most home broadband connections used by residents. Placing the modem near our work area, we manage to get download speeds of 62.5Mbps and upload speeds of 4.08Mbps.

While it is lower than when the modem is placed by the window, the download speeds are good enough for most use cases like 4K video streaming. With those speeds, the Smart Bro Home WiFi 5G is suitable as both a main source of internet connection or as a backup in case a house’s broadband connection becomes unusable.

Overall, while it is expensive at around Php 16k, the Smart Bro Home WiFi 5G is one of the few options with true 5G connectivity and WiFi6. We would recommend this to those who have a good 5G signal at home and don’t have a fixed connection or if you’re looking for a backup just in case you run into problems.
