Huawei Y7 VS vivo Y11 Comparo: Which Budget Phone Should You Cop?

If you’ve been looking at either picking up Huawei’s Y7 vs the vivo Y11, you’re in luck. Today we’ll be taking a quick look at these two phones to see which one you should pick up if your bank account’s been wearing thin because of all the craziness that’s been happening around us.

Both phones primarily use plastic in their builds, which isn’t a surprise considering the price points they play in.

While our review unit for the Huawei Y7 comes in conservative black, Huawei will also be releasing the Y7 2019 in a breathtaking new color, Aurora Purple.

The Y11 also comes in different color variants, namely blue, red and white, though we prefer the subtle color shifts of the Huawei Y7 VS the glossy treatment of the vivo Y11.

Both phones have physical fingerprint scanners on the rear as well and are roughly the same size.

Displays for both vary slightly, with the vivo Y11 sporting a slight advantage to overall screen size thanks to its 6.35-inch HD+ panel, VS the Huawei Y7’s 6.26-inch full HD+ display. The size disparity isn’t that big and you probably won’t notice it if the phones aren’t side-by-side.

Both also feature dewdrop notches on the top of the display. Both phones feature an 8-megapixel front camera.

Both the Huawei Y7 2019 and the vivo Y11 have 13-megapixel cameras and 2-megapixel depth sensors, though the differences stop there.

The biggest difference that puts Huawei’s Y7 ahead of the vivo Y11 is the aperture opening – the vivo Y11 only uses an f/2.2 aperture, while the Y7 uses an f/1.8 aperture.

This means that the Huawei Y7  is able to take clearer photos since its cameras allow more light in, compared to the vivo Y11. Photos that we took also shows that the vivo Y11 produced photos that were sometimes overwhelmingly warm, which isn’t the case with the Huawei Y7.

The vivo Y11 has a slightly newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor in the chassis, VS the Huawei Y7 which has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450.

In terms of benchmark the two processors are very close to each other, which means there’s really not that big of a difference when it comes to performance between the two.

The main advantage Huawei has with their Y7 VS vivo’s Y11 is more RAM (3GB VS 4GB) and storage (64GB VS 32GB), which means overall better multitasking, and less need to buy a separate microSD card for additional storage.

Huawei’s Y7 ships with Google Play installed, and aside from that it also comes with their own AppGallery which gives you a robust set of apps to use. If you can find the apps you need that way, there’s always the Petal Search Widget that will help you find that one app you’ve been looking for. Here are the apps that are available in AppGallery:

Entertainment – Viu, iQIYI, VidMate, TikTok, Dreame, WeSing, iFlix, iWant, VLive, Kumu, WattPad

Gaming – Asphalt 9, Plants vs. Zombies, Garena Free Fire, Lords Mobile, Guns of Glory, Cut the Rope 2, Adorable Home, Fortnite (via Epic Games), Uno

Social – Facebook, Viber, WhatsApp, Twitter, Snapchat, Zoom, WeChat, Tinder, LINE

Shopping – Lazada, Shopee, Zalora, BeautyMNL, Watsons, Alibaba, Booky, LalaFood, FoodPanda, MetroMart, Zomato

Finance – PayMaya, BDO, MetroBank, Union Bank, Grab (GrabPay), Security Bank, PesoLoan, EastWest, Home Credit, CIMB, RCBC

Content creation – Filmora Go, Canva, Camera360, PicsArt

On the battery side of things, the vivo Y11 has the edge over the Huawei Y7, sporting a slightly bigger 5000mAh battery VS 4000mAh.

Verdict: Huawei’s Y7 is a better buy

Looking at the specs and results of our testing, Huawei’s Y7 looks to be the better budget phone between the two.

The camera performance is better thanks to the larger aperture on the camera, and you’re getting more RAM and twice the storage VS vivo’s offering.

Huawei’s Y7 is priced slightly higher than vivo’s Y11 at Php 6,990 VS 6,490, but the added RAM and storage is worth the slight price increase.
